There should be more hours in a day...

Sorry for not posting for a while, boys and girls.  The semester has come on in full swing, and I feel that, while I'm still completing everything on time, I'm struggling to find time to get things done.  Also, the whole recruiting process proved to be quite stressful as well as time intensive.

I was able to get interviews with KPMG, KOD, and Bonadio.  KPMG turned me down for an internship, and I'm waiting to find out about the other two.  As much as I try to tell myself that its only for an internship, and not that big a deal if I don't get one, I can't help but stress.  I NEED an internship.  I don't want to graduate from school without any practical knowledge in accounting.  Although it's not required, I really want to be able to compete.

I made a podcast I title "The Student's Guide to the SJFC Accounting Recruiting Process". It can be found here.  Although not my best work, it does give an overview on what future students can expect from this process.

Let's hope I can keep these balls in the air just a little while longer.....

Interview Time

So I think my interview with KPMG went well. I made sure I kept eye contact with the interviewer at all times, looked attentive, and spoke clearly.  I always feel so nervous on the inside when I have to do an interview, but I've been told that it never shows on the outside.  I try not to fidget as well, but I could feel my foot and leg wanting to bounce under the table....

I wish I had better questions to ask at the end of the interview.  I should have written them down, but I didn't.  When I became time to ask them, I just ad-libbed them the best that I could. But I feel that I did well, or at least did my best.

Still waiting to see if I'm getting an interview with E and Y.  Since those interviews are this Friday, I hope to hear something soon....

Recruiting Time

Well, this week has sure been a whirlwind. There has been an accounting firm presentation every day this week, and I have been to 3 of them. They are all pretty much the same thing, which is a powerpoint presentation about why you should want to work for their company, followed by a meet and greet with the presenters.  I've become very used to wearing a suit this week, and my schmoozing skills are at an all time high.

I've already landed one interview, with KPMG. They seem like a great firm, with lots of opportunity for overseas travel.  I was denied an interview with MMB, which is pretty odd considering ive been to multiple events of theirs and seemed to hit it off with the staff there.  I'm still waiting to see if EY calls me for an interview.

More to come....

It begins.....

Well, its here. The St. John Fisher Accounting Recruting month.  For those of you that don't know, this is one of the most important times that an accounting major will go through here at Fisher.  Firms from throughout Upstate NY come to campus to give us students pitches on their firms, and why we might want to work for them.  The entire curriculum here is a preperation for this time...

I'm not ready to apply for a full-time job yet, but I am looking for a summer internship.  I have sent my resume to six of the companies coming to campus,   Which means have to get "suited up" at least 12 times, going to a presentation one day and an interview on another.  Should be pretty stressful, but I'm as ready as I'm going to be

More later......

Grocery Stores are Fun!

What is it about Wegmans that gets people so pumped up to go grocery shopping?? I'm a victim of this feeling myself, and even I have trouble explaining it.

I really love the new Wegmans in Henrietta. At first, it was really sad that the old Wegmans on East Henrietta Road was closing.  I loved that store.  It was small, simple, and had everything I needed for a quick grocery run.  But after seeing this new store, I don;t even care that it's gone. Everything is shiny and new, the layout of the store actually makes sense, and it has alot of things that I didnt even know I liked!

.....and I'm getting excitied about a grocery store. It's official, old age has overtaken me!

So who exactly do I think I am?

If you're sitting there reading this, you must of either typed in the wrong address in your address bar, or are in my Digital Media class (hello, Professor Sarachan!). As I think about what exactly this blog is going to be about, I begin by thinking about what exactly is it that I am all about.....

I'm 28 years old, a full time accounting student as well as a full time worker on a cubicle farm (call center). I just got married this past June. Needless to say, I've become very good at budgeting my time! I like bad sci-fi and horror movies, video games, and random videos found on the Web. I'm a part of that generation that was never properly taught to "grow up", and is enjoying every minute of it. I'm easily distracted, but am luckily able to concentrate on more than one thing at a time.

I think I may use this blog as a kind of pressure release valve for my mind. I find myself thinking of the strangest things sometimes, as I know we all do.  Think of this blog as a conversation with that weird guy on the airplane that just won't shut up.  Except there will be no little bags of peanuts for you, and you can't put on headphones to tune me out.

Enjoy the ride......
